Free Trade Agreements

DR-CAFTA

Free Trade Agreement between the Dominican Republic, Central America and the United States of America.

 

EPA

Economic Association Agreement between the European Union and the CARIFORO countries (the Caribbean Community and the Dominican Republic).

 

RD-CARICOM

Under this agreement, the Dominican Republic has the tariff-free possibility to the countries of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM): Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica, Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago.

DR-Central America

Since 1998, the Dominican Republic has a free trade pact with Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua.

 

DR-Panama

In addition to being bound in a free trade agreement with Panama through the DR-CAFTA and the DR-Central America agreement, the Dominican Republic has a special pact with Panama.

 

SGP

The Generalized System of Preferences is a program through which Japan, New Zealand, Norway, Switzerland and Turkey grant preferences to developing countries, such as the Dominican Republic, to trade with them under privileged conditions.

Export incentives

Law 8-90 on the Promotion of Free Trade Zones

Among other incentives, Law 8-90 establishes a 100% exemption in the payment of the Tax on Transfers of Industrialized Goods and Services (ITBIS).

 

Law 392-07 on Competitiveness and Industrial Innovation

According to the Competitiveness Law, a series of raw materials, industrial machinery and capital goods specified in Article 24 of the Law will be exempt from the collection of 50% of ITBIS in Customs. No.557-05.

Law 84-99 on Reactivation and Promotion of Exports

Standard 84-99 exempts from paying import taxes to those who buy goods abroad in order to export them.

 

Law 56-07 that prioritizes the textile sector

Law 56-07 creates special tax incentives for companies in the textile, clothing, accessories, leather, and footwear manufacturing sectors. In addition, it increases to 100% the proportion of merchandise that these businesses can sell in the country.
